Why We Struggle To Pray In This Digital Age

At no time in human history has the practice of prayer been easy. Even in Paul’s day, he had to instruct the Colossian church to devote themselves to prayer and to stay alert in it. The disciples who were with the Lord Jesus on the night before he died succumbed to sleep instead of giving even an hour to prayer.

So, while prayer has never been an easy practice to give ourselves to, the age in which we live seems to add additional obstacles. We can access millions of web pages and the thoughts of thousands of people with a device that fits in our pockets. I can pull out my phone and watch any episode of my favorite TV shows. A quick scroll through Twitter can send me down a wormhole of links. In this environment, it is easy to see why we struggle to pray.

The Problems
When I look on the landscape of our current culture, I see five temptations that we face which make prayer particularly difficult.

We Occupy Ourselves with the Trivial
Prayer makes us focus on the most important truths in…

4 Secrets For Turning A Small Business Into A Big One

Every business owner, at some point, desires growth for their business; they desire to see their business reach its full potential. There are some secrets to consider to help with this growth.
Jumia Travel shares 4 secrets for turning a small business into a big one.

Consider Diversifying
You might be significantly successful while focusing on one product, but to experience the kind of growth that can take you from a small business to a big one, diversification is one of the ways that can help you achieve this. Consider companies like Coca-Cola and Apple that grew, and were able to sustain their growth, largely because of the diversity of the products they offered.

This isn’t particularly a secret because when attempting to grow your business, this is one …

7 Things You Should Know About Repentance

Repentance is a massively important spiritual issue that calls for careful study and clear articulation. Here are ten things to remember about what it means to repent of our sin.

1. Genuine repentance begins, but by no means ends, with heartfelt conviction of sin.
That is to say, it begins with recognition, which is to say, an eye-opening, heart-rending awareness of having defied God by embracing what he despises and despising, or at minimum, being indifferent towards, what he adores. Repentance, therefore, involves knowing in one’s heart:

“This is wrong.”
“I have sinned.”
“God is grieved.”

The antithesis of recognition is rationalization, the pathetic attempt to justify one’s moral laxity by any number of appeals: “I’m a victim! You have no idea what I’ve been through. If you knew how rotten my life has been and how badly people have treated me, you’d give me a little slack.”

True repentance, notes J. I. Packer, “only begins when one passes out of what the Bible sees as self-deceptio…
